Chugging Along!

Hello all. Sorry for the absence. I have been busy chugging along on my manuscript. I am at around 62,000 words now. My goal is to have around 70,000 in my draft. I know that there will be some scenes I need to round out when I revise so I’m allowing about 10,000 words for the rewrite bringing me up to the average novel length of 80,000 words. It has been a long road to get here but it’s coming at a greater pace now. I have some momentum. I finally broke through the wall that I hit a couple of months ago. I’m learning how to deal with my writer’s resistance and I’m developing my own creative process, which is very exciting. I think the worst part about writing your first book is not just the writing, but learning the process of how to go about it. My goal is to be done by the end of April and start shopping for an editor and a cover designer by early May. I want to bring my e-book out in early June. I might be wrong, but I’m guessing that people read more during the summer. I picture people in beach chairs curled up with a good book and the ocean crashing in the background. Sounds heavenly doesn’t it. When I get this beast done, that is just what I’ll be doing. Currently I am not sure how feasible that is. I have no idea how long it takes for an editor to even get to your book or how long the editing process takes. I realize this is probably a lofty goal, but having a deadline really helps me to push myself and that is the important part. I can adjust my deadline later. I have discovered that setting a deadline is an important part of the process. I hope the rest of you are living your writing dreams right now or sitting on a beach with a good book. Either one is pretty sweet. Until next time, happy writing!
