Read To Be A Better Writer

I have read numerous books on the craft of writing.  One of my favorites is by Stephen King.  Of all the wonderful advice I found in his book, the point he made that stuck most in my mind is his recommendation to read a lot if you want to be a great writer.  In taking that advice to heart, I have vowed to turn off my television, except for The Blacklist on Thursdays, and read more books.  This past week, I read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.  The way her characters lifted off the page left me feeling equal parts of awe, inspiration and jealousy.  I walked away from the experience with several used tissues and a burning need to make my characters feel that three-dimensional.  I highly recommend reading it if you haven’t done so already.   You don’t just read the book, you experience it.  Those are the best kind of books and it is what I yearn for my book to be.  Happy writing and happy reading to all of you out there in cyberspace.  I challenge you to go read a good book this week!
